Vague memories of late night drinkies and loud rock music linger when entering the 12 Bar Club. This time round though, it's lunchtime and I am lured in by the promise of a dazzling range of veggie burgers. It's such a rare thing to see a meaty burger menu that also proclaims "all burgers available as veggie option" - BRAVO!
So it's in we go, the initimate dining room a welcome reprieve from the cloying London summer heat. A jukebox blasts The Doors around the place, and nearly all the tables are filled with chatting cityfolk. I'm greeted warmly by a young lady who looks to have stepped out of a 50s diner, and she takes my order (of Ska burger with orange juice) with a smile - i like it here!
The food takes around 10-15mins to arrive, during which time i kick back and enjoy the music and free indie magazines. The burger is served in a good quality white bun and although it is one of the breaded "peas and sweetcorn" variety it is firm and not at all soggy. The Ska burger comes with melted cheese, perfectly fried onions and the added zing of red chillies (other varieties include cheese and mushrooms) - lovely. The chips are chunky, rustic, greasy and delicious and the side salad is fresh and leafy green.

I will definitely be going back to sample more of these tasty veggie burgers - especially as i noticed the 12 Bar is fully licensed also during the day.
A nice cool pint with your meal as you watch the world go by (well the musos of Denmark Street) - now THAT'S veggie burger heaven!
